Six the Musical: Liverpool Empire Residency Announced! (2026)

Prepare to have your history books rewritten with a whole lot of sass! The sensational West End hit, Six, is set to explode onto the Liverpool Empire stage, and trust us, you won't want to miss this royal rumble of epic proportions. But here's the twist: these aren't your grandma's Tudor queens.

This isn’t just another stuffy historical drama; Six is a full-blown pop concert, a dazzling display of girl power that reimagines the lives of Henry VIII's wives. Written by the dynamic duo Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, Six gives each queen a microphone and the chance to finally tell their side of the story. Think of it as a historical remix, blending Tudor history with modern pop sensibilities.

The show, already a global phenomenon, is no stranger to Liverpool. It previously wowed audiences with a sold-out run at the Liverpool Playhouse back in 2020. And this is the part most people miss: that initial success in Liverpool was a key stepping stone to its meteoric rise! Following that, the show conquered the Edinburgh Fringe and London's prestigious West End, solidifying its status as a must-see theatrical experience. Now, Six is back, bigger and bolder than ever, ready to electrify audiences across the country.

Featuring unforgettable songs like "Ex-Wives," "Haus of Holbein," and "Don't Lose Ur Head," Six draws inspiration from contemporary pop music to rewrite history in the most entertaining way possible. Expect a night packed with laughter, catchy tunes, and a healthy dose of sass as these six queens reclaim their narratives.

Alexia McIntosh, the original Anne of Cleves, is returning to the tour to grace the stage once more. "After so many years with Six, both in London and now its cinematic release, I’ve been so lucky to have spent so much time with so many amazing cast members," she shared. "I’m so honoured to have been invited back to revisit life as Anna, and I can’t wait to work with even more amazing Queens. I'm excited to be passing the baton (or in this case, the famous Cleves boots!) on to Jodie when she takes over the role.”

Six will be holding court at the Liverpool Empire Theatre for a limited run from Tuesday, February 3rd, to Saturday, February 7th. Tickets are available on the Liverpool Theatre website. Snag yours before they vanish faster than Henry VIII's wives!

The creative team bringing this spectacular production to life includes set designer Emma Bailey, costume designer Gabriella Slade (whose designs are as eye-catching as the queens themselves!), lighting designer Tim Deiling, and sound designer Paul Gatehouse.

Currently, the Liverpool Empire is enchanted by another beloved classic, Mary Poppins, which runs until Saturday, January 31st. Featuring timeless tunes by the Sherman Brothers like "Jolly Holiday," "Step in Time," "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," and "Feed the Birds," alongside new songs and additional music and lyrics by the Olivier Award-winning British team of George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, Mary Poppins is the perfect spoonful of sugar before the queens arrive.

Here's a question to ponder: Is Six's portrayal of these historical figures empowering or disrespectful? Does the show accurately reflect the complexities of their lives, or does it prioritize entertainment over historical accuracy? Some might argue that it trivializes the struggles these women faced, while others see it as a fun and accessible way to engage with history. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below! We're eager to hear your perspective on this royal remix of history.
