Prepare for Higher Energy Bills This Winter: National Grid's Warning (2026)

National Grid Warns of Soaring Bills: Prepare for a Cold, Expensive March

Are you shivering from the cold and worried about your next energy bill? National Grid has some bad news. The energy company is predicting a significant jump in bills next month, citing a particularly harsh winter season.

During the last three weeks, Central New York experienced sub-zero temperatures, with some days reaching double-digit below-zero wind chills. This cold snap has led National Grid's spokesperson, Jared Paventi, to warn customers of a financial hit.

"Get ready for a surprise in your March bill," Paventi said. "It will reflect the challenges of this tough cold season."

This isn't the first time National Grid has raised concerns. In the summer of 2025, the company secured approval from the Public Service Commission to increase energy bills by up to $600 over three years, starting September 1, 2025. This rate hike affects 1.7 million electricity customers and over 640,000 gas customers.

So, as you bundle up for the rest of the winter, remember that the cold season's impact might be reflected in your next bill. Will you be prepared for the financial blow? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
