Ever wondered why some rules just don't seem to make sense? It's a question many Brisbane residents are asking, especially those with feline companions. Across Australia, it's pretty standard to see a dog enjoying a bus or train ride with its owner. But in Brisbane, a seemingly arbitrary public transport rule has cat owners feeling a bit… well, catty.
The issue? Rescue cat Socko, who goes everywhere with his owner Sara Calle-Herera, isn't allowed on the CityCat ferries.
But here's where it gets controversial... Dogs, on the other hand, have been welcome on these same ferries since 2020, provided they're leashed, muzzled, or in a carrier. This disparity has left cat owners like Calle-Herera scratching their heads.
"If I have a dog, I can take him on the CityCat if I need to take him to the vet. But I have a cat and I can't," Calle-Herera points out. "I just think that it's a little bit of a double standard."
And this is the part most people miss... The rule highlights a broader issue of fairness and consistency in public transport policies. Is it truly about safety, or are there other factors at play?
What do you think? Do you agree with Calle-Herera that this is a double standard? Share your thoughts in the comments below – let's get a discussion going! Do you think the rules should be the same for both cats and dogs?
